The Virtual Bookcase stores the entered names and e-mail addresses of its visitors. Entering this information is not required to visit the site. E-mail addresses entered on the site will never be published on the site to stop address harvesters. Mail will only be sent to those addresses by the site maintainers or by automatic processes on the site forwarding queries.
The Virtual Bookcase is hosted on a server in the Netherlands. Dutch law applies, which means traffic to the server can be captured by law enforcement in a so-called "lawful intercept". Logfiles and material on the site can be subpoenad by law enforcement as part of an investigation. Such breaches of privacy will be announced on the site when I become aware of them and I am allowed by law to publish this fact.
Links to The Virtual Bookcase are especially welcome. The Virtual Bookcase uses a site engine which makes sure links always point at the same object (one of the base ideas behind a URL as thought out by Tim Berners-Lee) so if you link to a specific book or author, the link will stay valid.
